Churchill Clark (a descendant of famed explorer William Clark) has been hand-carving a traditional dugout canoe with the help of kids from Westside High School in Wenatchee since last November, and yesterday they launched it into the Columbia River near .
Clark came to Wenatchee for the project primarily because of one Westside teacher, Sheena Zacherle, who thought it would be a good hands-on learning project for her students. After that the rest of the community came together to help. The project was completed in a variety of locations including the , the Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center and of course Westside High School.
